Body Alignment

As a practising yoga student you are already aware of the physical and spiritual benefits of yoga. Your presence within your practice allows you to forget work, domestic responsibilities, stress and really listen to your body.

Body alignment greatly assists the natural progression of your yoga and physical performance in life. It works on your muscles to create a greater range of movement and flexibility, releasing blockages and opening up your body.

Body Alignment is a specific treatment achieved initially through postural analysis. Areas of restriction are identified and a unique massage treatment is given specifically to help re align your body. Correcting muscular and skeletal imbalances reducing tension, headaches and lower back pain. This is then followed up with customised asana (yoga postures) to help heal and create harmony within your body.

Adrian Shortland's treatment is constantly developing and evolving through continual research and lecturing at The Australasian College of Natural Therapies in Surry Hills. Working alongside a leading physiotherapist and chiropractor, Adrian has had the opportunity to treat professional athletes in a range of fields. A yoga student for 5 years, Adrian is dedicated to complete body awareness and developing this awareness within others.

Chiropractic

The spinal column is made up of 24 movable bones called VERTEBRAE. Along with the brain and spinal cord, it is an integral part of the nervous system - your body's communication centre. Every tissue and organ in the body is connected to the nervous system and any interference of this message system can cause a disturbance in the normal body functions.

Sometimes during our normal life of work and sport, our spine and its segments can become dysfunctional, due to lifting or perhaps extending too far and we experience pain or restriction or even poor spinal alignment.

Chiropractic care focuses on locating and returning these vertebral segments to a more normal position, thereby removing pressure from spinal nerves. This enables the life-giving nerve impulses to travel freely to affected areas and restore health.

Chiropractic is the healing art and science which is based on the premise that the nervous system (consisting of the brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves) is the master governing or controlling system of the human body. Since the nervous system is housed within the bony structures of the skull and spine, there is an intimate relationship between the nervous system and its protective structures. If any structural or biomechanical dysfunction is present in the spine, it has the potential to cause interference to the function of the involved nerves, resulting in pain and/or decreased health in the organs or tissues which are supplied by the nerves. Chiropractors call such a condition the Vertebral Subluxation Complex or Subluxation for short.

Chiropractic works because you are self-healing and regulated by your nervous system. Impulses flow from your brain and down your spinal cord. Pairs of nerve roots branch off from between each spinal joint. These nerves link your brain with every cell and tissue of your body. Because of their close proximity to the moving bones of the spine, improper motion or position of spinal bones can irritate and compromise nerve function. Chiropractic care locates these areas and helps reduce their effect with spinal adjustments. Health often returns with restored nervous system control of your body.
