She had spent many years working in the events industry and yoga was a constant tool to act as a pressure valve to release the stress of work life. She used yoga to find balance and focus during periods of upheaval and had constantly toyed with the idea of getting her qualification and setting a new path for herself as a yoga teacher.
It was on a trip to India in 2012 that she finally took the plunge and completed her 200H Teacher Training in Ashtanga Yoga in Mysore, India. It was truly a life changing experience and a turning point in her understanding of the never ending depth and transformative power of yoga.
Katie has continued to develop and grow her own voice. She has had the honour to learn from a number of wonderful teachers, completing teacher training modules with Yoga Medicine (Tiffany Cruikshank) and Zenergy Yoga (Loraine Rushton) and attending workshops with Ana Forest, Simon-Borg Oliver, Tom Myers and Dr Ananda. She is in the final stages of finishing a 460H Diploma of Yoga with International Yoga Teachers’ Association, which will bring her over 700 hours of yoga teacher training.
Katie's teaching is informed by this continued education. Combining her roots of a strong practice with a love of anatomy, the emotional centres of the body and the need to find a balance between movement and stillness. Her sequences are designed to feel good and make sense in the body, moving slowly and consciously to allows students to feel each pose. She has a fun, accessible, encouraging approach to teaching, creating an environment where students feel comfortable moving past their mental and physical comfort zone.
