Yoga and Pilates

Play, explore, sweat and slow down in our beautiful, light-filled studios with some of the best yoga and Pilates teachers in Sydney.

Classes are designed for all levels. Flow in Vinyasa and reformer Pilates, learn the basics or slow down with Yin and our infrared saunas.

CLASS INFORMATION - Yoga Open 30°C

Yoga Open classes offer an energetic yoga flow with strong poses and creative sequencing, designed to challenge and inspire both physically and mentally.

Classes vary in focus and pace, and from teacher to teacher, and we encouraged you to move within the boundaries of your experience level. We recommend Yoga Open classes to those with prior yoga experience. If you're new to vinyasa, please attend 4-6 Yoga Essentials classes before trying our Open classes.

Temperature: Classes are heated to approximately 30°C. We do our best to keep the room at a comfortable temperature and recommend that you come hydrated, dress light, and bring a towel and water. If you are injured or pregnant please let your teacher know before class begins.

YOUR TEACHER - Joao Da Costa

Joao’s passion for arm balances and inverted poses has led him to develop his own practice with slow movements, concentration and precision. Joao’s classes focus on Peak Pose sequencing, where, through progressive sequences, we prepare the body and mind to achieve those more challenging poses. Joao has been a student and teacher of Yoga for over 11 years. His Yogic journey has taken him into Karma, Bhakti and Raja Yoga, focusing in Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga. Over the years Joao trained and learned from renowned Yoga teachers around Australia and the Globe; Michael “Laxmivan”, Duncan Peak, Simon Borg-Olivier, Simon Park, Idit Hefer Tamir, Maryanne Edwards, Mel McLaughlin and others

Vicky started practising yoga while traveling in the United States. She instantly fell in love with the Ashtanga practice, and the strength and confidence it gave her.
In 2009, Vicky completed 200 hour teacher training with John Ogilvie and Judy Krump at Byron Yoga Centre, and followed with 500 hour Advanced training with Peter Clifford at Santosha Yoga Byron Bay in 2010. Since then she has studied with many teachers including Sarah Powers, Annie Carpenter, and in many styles including Acroyoga, Yin, Pre and Post Natal and Yoga Therapy. Vicky’s dynamic, alignment-focuses classes embrace the range of her knowledge, challenging and nurturing students, and helping them to create a safe and sustainable practice. She combines her knowledge of yoga with functional movement to balance strength and flexibility, with conscious body awareness and creative sequencing.

Yoga Essentials classes build the foundations of your yoga practice. Classes move at a steady pace with a focus on alignment and instruction. We recommend Yoga Essentials classes to those who are new to yoga or experienced students looking to refine their practice and technique.

BodyMindLife Surry Hills is home to three spacious yoga rooms, two pilates rooms with state-of-the-art reformer machines as well as dedicated yoga teacher training facilities.
